GREEN ALLIANCE NETWORK MARKED 2023 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FORESTS.<\/h3><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The 2023 International Day of Forests was under the theme Our Forests, Our Health. As an organization committed to environmental sustainability, the Green Alliance Network, a Ghanaian based NGO decided to mark the day in the proverbial and the historical Dodowa forest by planting of 10,000 trees.
 
The event was well attended by the Shai Osudoku Traditional Council led by the Omankralo, Nene Wayo Nartey III, the Assembly Member of the electoral area, Hon Daniel Kaiko, Representatives of the Forestry Commission of Ghana, Religious leaders, Students from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) who are offering a project in Bergplaas Nature Reserves, South Africa and people from all walks of life.
 
In his address, Nene Wayo Nartey III expresses on behalf of the traditional council his profound gratitude to Green Alliance Network for resolving to mark the day in the almost depleted forest. He appealed to the network not to end here but to adopt the forest as its own and restore it to its past glory. He added that the forest has so much history and must not be left to be destroyed. Nene Wayo revealed that originally, the forest was 650 hectors but has been almost destroyed and what is left now is just about 250 hectors. In the later part of his speech, he conceded that the traditional authorities are partly to be blamed for the depletion of the historic, proverbial and the sacred forest.
 
The Founder and President of Green Alliance Network, Mr Passover Asimenu Jonah thanked the traditional council for their cooperation, support and participation in their numbers and promised to do everything possible to have the forest restored. He bemoaned the alarming rate at which the forest was being depleted and promised to appoint forest guards to protect what is left while the organization embarks on its restoration drive dub Dodowa Forest Restoration Project (DFRP). He also promised the traditional council that the entire stretch will be fenced.
 
The Assemblyman, Hon. Daniel Kaiko lamented about how some residents have turned the forest into toilet and defecating all around the area.
 
The leader of the Forestry Commission on his part underscored the importance of tree planting and urge all to cultivate the habit of tree planting.
